About Dhuhr

Dhuhr (الظهر), also written Zuhr or Zohar, is the midday prayer. It begins just after the sun passes its highest point (solar noon); the Moonsighting Committee method adds 5 minutes as a precaution, and lasts until Asr begins. It has four obligatory rak‘ahs. On Fridays, the Jumu‘ah congregational prayer takes its place; each mosque announces its own khutbah and Jumu‘ah times.
